Guidelines
Household
- No smoking.
- Minimal use of alcohol.
- Maintain reasonable quiet between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am (8:00 am on weekends).
- Keep personal items in personal space and negotiate with others about
keeping personal items in common rooms long-term (e.g. books, furniture,
house plants).
- Negotiate with others about social use of common rooms.
- Share the cost of basics, contributing $25 per person per week.
- Buy basics economically; pay for personal specialty items from own
funds.
- Update the list of supplies needed and communicate with the person who
shops.
- Cook for the household one night each week.
- Make an effort to eat as a group, indicating on the schedule who is here
for dinner.
- Share cleaning after meals and daily kitchen upkeep.
Cleaning
- Keep common rooms clean and attractive, both for residents and for
visitors.
- Share weekly household jobs.
- Participate in six project days per year for larger tasks such as
reorganizing, deep cleaning, and small repairs. These days are normally held
on the 2nd Saturday in even-numbered months.
- Take part in seasonal jobs such as raking, snow-shoveling, and
lawn-mowing.
House Meetings
- Participate in house meetings, held twice a month (currently on the first
and third Sundays, after a house dinner). These include opportunities to
share personal news, to announce coming events, to review current policies,
and to make necessary decisions.
- Practice Quaker decision-making process, modeled on Friends meetings for
business.
Stewardship
- Recycle everything possible: clean, flat paper, including mail and
newspapers; all clean cardboard; all glass; all cans; all plastic containers
with a recycling symbol.
- Compost all vegetable products in the warm season.
- Save energy by turning off lights, conserving heat, and controlling
ventilation.
