Co-OP Seeking New member!
ARE YOU LOOKING TO LIVE IN COMMUNITY?
Arlington Friends House anticipates an opening in June! We're looking for a long-term housemate, but have some flexibility about dates, and may also consider a summer sublet. A long-established co-op, we share a spacious Victorian in Arlington Center with fireplaces, stained glass, porches, yard, parking, etc. (We're a 10-minute bike ride to Alewife and the red line.)
THE HOUSEHOLD: We're a community of seven (plus one dog). We include different ages (30-65) and backgrounds (poet, nature educator, consultant, university professor, massage therapist, priest) but share the values of simple living. Each of us cooks one night a week (vegetarian meals), with the expectation that we eat most dinners together, sharing all food and household supplies, as well as cleaning and upkeep. We hold house meetings every other week and make decisions using a Quaker-based consensus process. (Read our full house guidelines here.)
THE MATCH: Our ideal housemate will be experienced in shared living, and great communicator: someone who enjoys working in groups, is looking for a long-term home — ideally at least 18 months — and prioritizes community. Singing, dancing, bike-repair and gardening skills optional! We probably can't take additional pets.
THE ROOM: Located on the 3rd floor, the room measures about 10 x 15 (see a photo and another photo). It rents for $700 plus $75 for utilities (flat rate for internet, water, gas heat, electricity) for a total of $775 per month Each member also contributes $50 per week for the house food kitty.
THE LOCATION: It's a tree-lined neighborhood, near a park and a pond, but only blocks from Mass. Ave., with its shops, public transit and Minuteman bike path. Many of us have commuted to Tufts, Harvard, Lesley, MIT or downtown.
THE PROCESS: If you're interested, please read through this website here first, to learn how we work! Then, if it still seems like a good fit, we invite you to fill out the Application on the Openings page. We’ll respond to all applications through the website.
COVID NOTE: Current residents are all fully vaccinated and we expect new residents to be as well. We've developed detailed safety protocols that we update periodically and are happy to share.
Thanks. We look forward to hearing from you!
