Simple GUIdelines for LIVING TOGETHER AT AFH

General 
*    No smoking, of any kind; minimal use of alcohol; 
      
no illicit substances.                .
*    Maintain quiet hours between 10:00 pm
      and 8:00 am.
*    Keep personal items in personal space and
      negotiate about keeping personal items in  
      common space (e.g. books, furniture, pictures,
      house plants).
*    Negotiate with others about social use of 
      common rooms.

Food 
*    Plan on regular house dinners, indicating on the
      dinner list if you will be away.
*    Cook for the household one night each week.
*    Pause for worship or grace before meals.
*    Share meal cleanup and daily kitchen upkeep.
*    Share the cost of food and supplies, contributing   
      $50 per person per week.
*    Buy basic foods economically; pay for personal
      specialty items from own funds.
*    Update the supply list regularly and communicate with the house shopper.

Cleaning
*    Keep common rooms clean and attractive, both for residents and for visitors.
*    Carry out weekly household jobs (approximately two hours each).
*    Participate in six project days per year for larger tasks (repainting, reorganizing, maintenance and repairs).
      Typically these take place on the 2nd Sunday in odd-numbered months.
*    Take part in seasonal jobs such as raking, snow-shoveling, and lawn-mowing.

House Meetings 
*    Participate in house meetings, held twice a month (currently every other Sunday, over dinner). These
      include sharing appreciations, news, concerns, and house opportunities for making changes.
*    Practice Quaker decision-making process, modeled on Friends meetings for business.
*    Negotiate with the household in advance before seeking changes in personal responsibilities
      (house jobs, dinners, meeting nights, project days, etc.)

Stewardship
*    Recycle everything possible: all clean, flat paper and cardboard; all glass containers; all cans; all 
      plastic containers with a recycling symbol.
*    Compost all vegetable products.
*    Save energy by turning off lights, conserving heat, and controlling ventilation.
